WORDS OF THE WEEK!

Each class presents two WOW words during one week of the school year.  Our second grade class will present their two words the week of February 23rd.  Students will present a keynote presentation and then do various activities in the mornings in front of the entire school.  The goal of WOW words is for students to incorporate them across the curriculum in their daily use and especially their writing.

How to Make Homemade Ice Cream!

First, you need to gather all of the supplies.

Following the steps to make homemade ice cream!

This ice cream tastes YUMMY!!

During a week in writing our students focused in on something they felt they were good at and they wrote a how to piece of writing.  The kids came up with some fantastic ideas including: how to play a game, make cupcakes, ride a bike, tie shoes, etc.  I modeled for the students a piece of writing on how to make homemade ice cream.  After a long week of going through the writing process and incorporating the six traits they were able to follow my steps to make their own bowl of homemade ice cream.  It was delicious!

Reading Jungle

The first and second grade teachers decided to turn our East Pod into a Reading Jungle where our kids could snuggle up with a good book.  It is slowly coming together; however, Mrs. Dudo and her mother spent an entire day transforming it to feel more like a jungle for the kids.  There is still lots of work to do; however, the kids love it so far!
