Christmas Party!

The cookies the kids decorated! Look at all those sprinkles and frosting!
Mr. Corona reading the students a story as they passed around a candy cane!
Working on a word search and coloring page!
Decorating cookies at the cookie station!
Students even made a candy cane reindeer!

Thanks to all the families that donated $4 for the parties. Also, a HUGE thank you to Mrs. Rhoads for organizing our party. A thank you also goes out to Mr. Rhoads, Mrs. Grabast and Mr. and Mrs. Corona for helping at the Christmas party. It wouldn't have been as rewarding for the kids without your help. It was greatly appreciated!

Santa Letters!

Even though this is an extremely busy time of year. Santa still had time to send letters back to the kids. They were super excited!

Word of the Week

This week our class will be presenting the words of the week to the entire school. The words we chose were:

collapse: to fall down due to weakness
avoid: to stay away from a person, place or thing

The students will be presenting the words in front of the entire school Tuesday-Friday in various methods. Feel free to come watch the words of the week in the mornings at 7:55. The keynote presentation and movie will also be posted on the Newell webpage for everyone to watch!!

Kindergarten Buddies!

Reading buddies are so much fun! The 2nd graders were matched with a kindergarten friend from Mrs. Engel's class. The first time together they got to know each other by making a team turkey. The future dates the 2nd grade students will read to their buddy; however, by the end of the year the kindergartners will start reading to them. It is so fun to watch the older kids be role models and teachers to the younger ones in helping them learn to read.

STAR STUDENT!!!

When your child is the STAR STUDENT OF THE WEEK their poster along with pictures important to them will be posted for all to see. On Monday, your child will share with the class. Then on Tuesday, they will eat with two of their buddies in the classroom with the teacher. It is a special week for your child.

Communities!

Daily 5

Adison is listening to a story on a Cd.

Jordyn and Alex G. are playing "BANG" in order to practice their sight words.
Cole and Zach are Reading to Someone as they sit EEKK!
Jaqueline is listening to a story on Tumblebooks.

Measuring!

America and Victoria are measuring Alex G.'s arm span using links. Students are learning to measure with links, cubits and hand spans.

Edible Spiders

Eating them was the best part!!
In order to learn the writing trait of organization students had to follow six basic steps in order to make an edible spider. When they were finished they had to write sentences about each step and add stoplight words to them. Once that was completed students made posters on Comic Life to explain the steps needed to make an edible spider using pictures and their sentences.

Communities!

Students are working in teams to create their very own community. They are working on teamwork skills while making places to live, play and work. They have come up with some creative things! Next week they will start adding all the details to their projects.

Teamwork!

Team Dolphins!
Team Cameros!
Team Hurricanes!
Team Lightning!
Team Leopards!

Students worked together in teams to create a puzzle. They weren't able to look at the box to see what it was supposed to look like. They just had to do it by working together and communicating.

Kites!

Students had so much fun on Friday flying their kites in the wind. This was a science investigation involving air and weather. They could have ran around with their kites for hours.

Sorting Shoes!

Students chose many ways to sort their shoes whether by laces, no laces, velcro, slips ons/ where they were made/ girl shoes and boy shoes/ shoe sizes, etc. This time they sorted by type of shoe.
How are we ever going to sort all these shoes?
